Rolex Daytona With A Floating Face: Perhaps The Most Subtle of the Unique Cosmographs
Even the most mundane Rolex Daytonas are still grail watches for most. That said, we’ve done our best to bring you the most interesting Daytonas out there. This includes an one issued to the Peruvian Air Force, an El Primero Daytona, one with a white Porcelain face, an El Primero Daytona with a white Porcelain Face, a Paul Newman on brown leather (the best looking watch on earth), an early version signed by Tiffany & Co., and of course a Daytona with a face made out of a 12,000 year old meteorite.
Today’s Daytona is something special as well, but unlike those above, you really have to pay carefull attention to realize what makes it so. This Rolex looks like your typical modern-era stainless Daytona with a black face, but actually it features a very rare trait. You’ll notice that the word “Cosmograph” is actually a few milimeters below where you’d expect it to be. This is referred to as a “floating face”. As with so many other watches we’ve brought you, it is these little oddities that make this item considerably more valuable than it’s “normal” brothers.

One thing of note with these floating cosmograph Daytonas is that the sub-dials are actually subject to corrosion far more easily than your average Rolex. That said, this one appears to be in excellent condition. Our friends at 10 Past Ten Timepieces (who have a really knock-out inventory of Rolexes, btw) are asking $17,000 for this particular example. We think the price is fair, especially for such a unique Rolex. This one may not attract the attention of too many people as anything special, but just knowing that it is anything but your typical Daytona is half the fun.

these are really some minor details that must be announced…. so that people have ease in choosing the right style watch for them…. i always wondered about the floating cosmograph mark…. but i always shrugged the thought that it may be some minor error… but now i knew that was intentional kind of a thing of varied brand.. thanks a lot for this wonderful eye-opening post
To have a “Rolex” is a dream to me!!!
Nice article, I have add it to my favorite
I have one, the Daytonas but not the floating. I will have to check this out.
I like Rolex with floating
Along with new Rolex’s going up in price… your used Rolex does too.Eventually your used Rolex is worth more than you bought it new and you can sell it to break even or make profit and thus the reason that so many collect these timepeices. Of course if you want to invest your money you can find a lot greater returns at a bank or financial advisor than in a Rolex.
I didn’t know that the floating was an intentional thing. Wow, thanks for posting!
